About Maldives Diving

How is diving in Maldives?


In Maldives there is more than 1190 islands grouped into 26 atolls in the Indian Ocean. Where only country which has 1% land and 99% Ocean. 200 islands are inhabited and most of the population lives in the capital Male. Maldives flat white sandy beaches, crystal clear water, vibrant colors of marine life makes Maldives unique. Scuba diving is one of the leisure activity in Maldives each and every resort have its own PADI certified dive centre. The water flows up along the wall with the current feeding the soft corals, sponges clinging the rock sides. Inside the atoll lagoons, thila (rock pinnacles) vault up from the bottom to scratch the water surface. In the channels there are full of energy and life moving along with water into large caves and overhangs covered with colourful sponges, gorgonians and invertebrates to explore. In cleaning stations plankton service the Whale Sharks and Manta Rays.




Should I choose Liveaboard diving or island / resort diving?


Diving in resorts or hotels you will be exploring mostly its surroundings. Where else Liveaboard will be taking you to the most popular dive sites in the country. In addition you get to see more of Maldives exploring local culture and island life.




Which Dive route should I be taking?


Most liveaboard to the standard 7 days tour which is also called best of Maldives tour , or 4 atoll route. If you are coming for the 2nd or 3rd time you may want to explore a different route exploring Baa Atoll Hanifaru Bay for whale sharks or most southern routes to see the most remote dive sites.




The Weather and best time for diving?


The Maldives enjoys a tropical climate and has two distinct season. "Iruvai monsoon /dry (Northeast Monsoon) from April to December,and Hulhangu monsoon / wet (Southwest Monsoon) from May to November. Dry season (Iruvai) is the period of regular sunshine with little or occasion showers. Its also known as the high season in Maldives. Which is good for scuba diving as the visibility is great.





About Visiting Maldives

Do I get tourist visa on arrival to Maldives? and What are the documents required?


Yes you can get tourist visa to Maldives on arrival. Below documents are required. - a passport validity of minimum 6 months - valid hotel booking




What time should I arrive to join Hotel / Liveaboard?


Most hotels in Male atoll will arrange transfer to the hotel upon your arrival. If you are traveling by seaplane most hotels require to arrive before 15:00 hrs. If you are traveling by domestic flight most hotels will arrange transfer to the hotel upon your arrival. To avoid any inconvenience It’s good to check with the hotel or travel agent about your transfer arrangements if you are travelling by seaplane at times you many have to stay at a city hotel at Male/ Hulhulmale or a resort near by. Get seaplane and domestic flight contact numbers here Most Liveaboard tour runs from Saturday to Saturday, Sunday to Sunday or Monday to Monday. Checking time is 10:00 am or 11:00 am and check out time is 8:00 am or 9:00 am There will be no issue arranging the transfer if you are coming on the tour day. However if you have a night flight on the same day it is advisable to come one day early. As most boats will move from the marina before sunset.





Payments

Can I pay by credit card?


Most hotels accept major credit cards VISA, MASTER, AMERICAN EXPRESS, DINERS CLUB, JCB. On arrival at Velana International airports there are Bank of Maldives ATMS which you can withdraw money from VISA, MASTER and AMERICAN EXPRESS. If you plan to pay by credit card it's wise to check which credit card the hotel or LIveaboard accept before arrival.




What is the exchange rate for a dollar?


Current exchange rate is MRF 15.42 for a USD. and most hotels accept USD or EUROS. For Currency converter click




How can I pay for my trip.


At the moment we accept payment by bank transfers. We have a flexible payment scheme. - Up on receiving the invoice 25% with in 7 days. - 25% 60 days prior to arrival. - 50% 30 days prior to arrival. Note: For group bookings, at times we may have to request full payment earlier if there is a high demand for the same tour.





General Diving

Upon arrival would you meet us?


Yes. Our airport representative will meet you at the airport upon arrival and will arrange the transfer to the boat.




What is included on my liveaboard itinerary?


Your itinerary includes: - Accomadation on boat, - Full board meals, -17 dives per week including 1 night dive - 1 Beach BBQ, - if weather permits -1 island excursion, - if weather permits - Return transfer to the boat from airport to boart and from boat to airport. - Some boats offer free wifi and some wifi is chargable (please check with the individual boat before you book) - Some boats offer Nitrox free and some boats its chargable, (please check with the individual boat before you book)




What should I bring to dive?


Your C card, Dive log book. * dive equipments fins, mask, BCD, wetsuit, and dive computer. Note: Dive equipments are availabe at boat, divecentre for rent. If you require to rent them please advice during the reservation.




What is the maximum depth?


Maximum depth for all recreational dive is 30 meters.




Is dive computer a must?


Yes. To join the dive you must have your dive computer, if you don't have a dive computer you can rent a one please advice when you do the reservation.




I want to see sharks can we see them?


Yes, you can see sharks on our most popular dive route. Best of Maldives tour. - Hammer head sharks can be seen in north Ari Atoll. - Whale Sharks can be seen in Ari Atoll too. Best time to see them in form November to April.




Is Diving good in North East season?


From May to Ocotober (Northeast season) is poular for pelagic species such as shark and jacks on the eastern side of the atoll. Manta rays and whale sharks will only be found on the west side during this season.




Can i bring kids on board?


You are welocme to bring kids on board, kids can do snorkeling on board, Snorkeling kit can be rented, if you wish to rent a kit please advice during the reservation.




Can we have non divers discount?


Yes pelase request for a non diver discount during the resevation.




What is the capacity of the boat?


Most boats can take from 18 -20 divers, Emperor Atoll is ideal for a small group upto 12 pax.




How many dive guides are on each boat?


There is 2-3 Padi certified dive masters on boat.




What type of electricity sockets are there?


Liveaboards has British socket type There are power converters/ adapters available on board.
